The Office of the Ombudsmen has requested the Fire Service produce a report on their refusal of the OIA request for NZ suburb dataset.
The Ombudsman directed their request to the NZFS CEO, which is presumedly standard practice (anyone want to comment?).
The letter I received from the Office is embedded below, for those curious about procedures surrounding the OIA.

Yes, it is standard practice for OIA investigations for Ombudsmen to request a report on the withholding from the CE of the relevant agency.
Hi John,
From the comments of other people who have been through the process, sometimes the Office gives a gentle “nudge” before issuing a request for a report.
That’s more what a I was referring to.
I’m interested in this – has there been any update? from my research it appears that the NZFS is the only organisation in New Zealand who has a working set of spatial boundaries for suburbs… everyone else just has points which are pretty useless for any meaningful analysis. have you had any more news on this in the past 2 years?
Hi Mathieu,
I’ve heard nothing from the Office of the Ombudsmen except excuses. Pretty sad state of affairs, really.
